Kender

Kender somehow migrated to Karion from Krynn eons ago. Since then they have changed very little.

An adult kender resembles a young teenage human with pointed ears. They are between 3 and 4 feet tall (36 +2D8 inches for males, 32 +2D8 inches for females) and most weigh less than 100 pounds (80 +3D10 lbs. for males, 75 +3D10 lbs. for females). Kender generally let their hair grow long, and cannot grow beards. Their eyes are pale blue, sea green, olive, light brown, or hazel in color. Kender have roughly the same life span as humans.

PERSONALITY:

Kender are a lot like children. They are curious about everything and many leave to become adventurers. They love danger and are so unaware of their own mortality that they are completely immune to fear, even magical fear. Kender love to be independent and basically do what they want all the time. They are not lazy per se, but if they are not interested in a task then they simply will ignore it. They are extremely big-hearted and will readily attach themselves to other members of a group. This also means they do not take criticism from those around them very well at all.

LIFESTYLE:

Kender do not have a form of government because they enjoy the freedom of anarchy. They live in tree-houses that are connected to other buildings with rope bridges, ladders, and other fun things. Kender on Karion can hide their cities even better than on their native Krynn, making them 90% undetectable.

Because kender do not understand the concept of ownership, they will often pick up shiny or interesting things and make off with them. While other races call this stealing, kender take great offense at this and insist they are not thieves. They call such people Handlers; the main difference between a handler and a thief is that the handler takes out of curiosity, while a thief will take things for personal gain. Also, thieves will tend towards the most valuable items, kender prefer the flashiest or most interesting things.

TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY:

Kender have many specialized tools and weapons, most of which have two or three uses. They have so many that I'm not about to list them all here, I've only included the two most popular ones. I got these directly from The World Book of Ansalon (along with most of my information on gnomes, kender, and minotaurs). Kender weapons are so specialized that any non-kender attempting to use them will suffer a -2 penalty to hit. Kender, on the other hand, enjoy a +2 bonus when using weapons of their own make.

Hoopack: (Damage 1D6 +2/1D4 +2, Speed 2, Type P/B) A hoopack is a staff with a spearhead on one end and a sling on the other, favored by male kender. It can be used as a walking stick, staff, spear, staff sling, or a probe.

Whippik: (Damage 1D2 +2/2, Speed 4, Type P/S) A whippik looks like a riding whip with a long pole and a loop of catgut on one end, and is used primarily by females. It can be used as a whip or it can fire small darts by stringing the loop and pole into a bow. Additional lengths of catgut can allow this weapon to perform many tasks.

GAMING NOTES:

Attribute Adjustments: +2 Dex, -2 Str (note: these are not the attribute adjustments for Krynn kender).
