Wolfen
True to their name, wolfen appear to be humanoid wolves. They are tall, averaging about 7'3'' (84 +1D10 inches for males, 80 +1D10 inches for females) but only weigh about 200-300 pounds (220 +4D20 lbs. for males, 180 +4D20 lbs. for females). Their head is particularly wolf-like, complete with muzzle and ears. They also have a short bushy tail. Wolfen typically have black, brown, gray, or white fur, often in patches. All black wolfen are very rare and all white wolfen are almost unheard of.
PERSONALITY:
Wolfen are often seen as vicious killers and are associated with werewolves. Though they are fierce and dangerous opponents, it is a reputation they do not wholly deserve. Wolfen can be quite gentle, and are remarkably good parents. Cubs are raised by the entire clan and are treated with a great deal of love and affection. Wolfen have also been known to adopt children of other races and raise them as wolfen, these orphans are given all the rights and privileges of a true wolfen. Unlike most species, wolfen do not discriminate by race.
All this aside, wolfen are very dangerous enemies. They feel a constant need to show dominance over other races, resulting in unprovoked attacks and constant border skirmishes. They are ruthless in battle and will never back down unless they are clearly outmatched and outnumbered. Wolfen also bicker among themselves constantly.
Though not ruled by honor like minotaurs, wolfen do have a few laws which must be obeyed. They are forbidden to kill other wolfen; this is a source of great pride. No wolfen has ever killed another in cold blood or self-defense. Wolfen must respect the wishes and the property of those of higher station (but not necessarily those of lower station), and a Life Debt must be repaid. A Life Debt is an ancient and sacred tradition; if someone saves the life of a wolfen, that wolfen is obligated to repay that kindness. There are three ways this is done: serving as a slave to their savior, pledging allegiance to him or her, and saving the other's life. With the exception of the final method, there is no way to fulfill a Life Debt before death.
LIFESTYLE:
Wolfen live in a complicated caste system with over 400 castes. Those at the top must rule with an iron fist or be overthrown. Changes of station occur every few years in a wolfen's life, both upward and downward. Wolfen architecture is a mix of human and elven. Like minotaurs, wolfen love to watch battles in the arena, though they have a simpler form of justice-those of a higher station are always right.
TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY:
Wolfen favor longswords and maces, along with polearms and bows. They prefer light armor but will gladly wear any. Wolfen technology is all but identical to human's.
