Hobus
Semra created Hobus, hoping it would be a land where the people could live in peace. Unfortunately, the minotaurs have found there way here and have begun a slow conquest of the area. Orcs, goblins, and other creatures have also managed to wander in here. On the whole, however, Hobus is much more peaceful than the other nations of Karion.
Hobus is farther north than Sistan, but due to the bizarre weather patterns that prevail over Karion it has a slightly warmer climate. This is one of the more difficult areas to navigate by boat due to a large collection of uncharted islands.
The Nations of Hobus:
SALMOLONIA
CAPITAL: Salmolonia
MAIN POPULACE: Human
LANGUAGES: Salmolonian*, Gahanereshan*, Miheren*, Common, Teangarn+
NATIONAL ALIGNMENT: Neutral Good
GOVERNMENT: Monarchy
ALLIES: Miheren, Teangar
GEOGRAPHY: Salmolonia lies on a small island east of Miheren. This tiny country has only one major city. Thick forests cover a hilly terrain in Salmolonia.
CLIMATE: This country is in a cold temperate zone, like many nations on Hobus. Though winters are long, they are not harsh and snow rarely exceeds six inches even in the mightiest of storms. Numerous lakes provide good fishing and game is plentiful.
POLITICS: Though Salmolonia is joined with Miheren and Teangar to stop the Minotaurs, they are the least active member of this alliance. Salmolonia wishes only to stay as far out of the fighting as they can without leaving Miheren and Teangar to the Minotaurs.
TRADE: Salmolonia trades with all nearby nations for almost everything.
MIHEREN
CAPITAL: Kistentell
MAIN POPULACE: Elves
LANGUAGES: Miheren*, Salmolonian*, Teangarn*, Common
NATIONAL ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Good
GOVERNMENT: Empire
ALLIES: Salmolonia, Teangar
GEOGRAPHY: East of Salmolonia lies the island continent of Miheren. It is covered by mountains and forests, but this is hardly the sylvan wonderland that Elves prefer. The winter in this area is colder than other areas of the continent and coniferous trees are all that can survive. The Elves who dwell here have evolved to their climate (see the entry on Snow Elves). Large lakes and rivers sweep through the mountainous regions.
CLIMATE: Miheren lies in the same cold temperate region as Salmolonia. However, the high mountains cause any snowfall to hit Miheren long before it reaches the eastern regions. A jetstream carries cold air directly to Miheren from the north, making Miheren the coldest nation on this continent.
POLITICS: Miheren is in the thick of the war against Moblious. Almost half of all the allied soldiers in the war are from Miheren. The Snow Elves consider anyone who does not aid them a coward and will have no dealings with them; this is the main reason behind Salmolonia’s involvement in the war.
TRADE: Miheren trades only with its two allies, and only in weapons and armor. They feel if they can keep the other nation’s minds on the war, they will have a psychological advantage over the Minotaurs.
TEANGAR
CAPITAL: Greek
MAIN POPULACE: Humans and Elves, plus some Goblin- Kin
LANGUAGES: Teangarn*, Miheren*, Common, Salmolonian+, Gobbely+
NATIONAL ALIGNMENT: Neutral Good
GOVERNMENT: Monarchy
ALLIES: Miheren, Salmolonia
GEOGRAPHY: Teangar lies on a small, hook- shaped island west of Miheren. The tip of the "hook" broadens to become almost another continent. It is this part of the island that Moblious is trying to annex. The inhabitants of Teangar live primarily on the Base of the "hook", near a mountainous area. Though the northeast shares Miheren’s colder temperatures, much of Teangar is as mild as Salmolonia. The land is similar to Miheren: thick forests, large lakes, and long, ancient rivers make up most of Teangar.
CLIMATE: The northeastern corner of Teangar is covered by tundra, but the remainder has a relatively mild climate. The snows on Teangar are rarely deeper than four inches. However, summer temperatures rarely exceed 75° even on the hottest of days. Human live in the southern lands, while Snow Elves live in the north.
POLITICS: Teangar has been the fiercest fighters in this war. In defense of their country and their families, the people will stop at nothing to rid themselves of this threat. This single- mindedness may work to their detriment, however, by blinding them to chances to negotiate a peace.
TRADE: Teangar upholds Miheren’s policies of trading only with allies and only in weapons and armor. They hope the growth of the weapons trade will give them a technological advantage in the war.
MOBLIOUS
CAPITAL: Moblious
MAIN POPULACE: Minotaur
LANGUAGES: Moblian*, Common, Teangarn+, Miheren+
NATIONAL ALIGNMENT: Lawful Evil
GOVERNMENT: Republic
ALLIES: None
GEOGRAPHY: The island of Moblious is very similar to the other nations of this region: thick forests, mountains, rivers, and lakes are everywhere. Moblious lies west of Teangar and has the warmest climate in this region (with the exception of the Carskaties, described below).
CLIMATE: Similar to that of Teangar, but slightly warmer.
POLITICS: Moblious is not interested with conquest at the moment, merely expansion. They want to have a better foothold in this region before they begin their real assault. Thus far, the two armies are at a standstill.
TRADE: Moblious occasionally trades with adventurers and explorers for various items, mainly weapons.
THE CARSKATIES
CAPITAL: None
MAIN POPULACE: Varied
LANGUAGES: Gobbely*, Common+, several regional dialects
NATIONAL ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Neutral
GOVERNMENT: Anarchy
ALLIES: None
GEOGRAPHY: The island chain south of Teangar and Moblious is known as the Carskaties. The terrain is similar to the other areas of this region. The Carskaties are home to many races: Goblin- Kin, Giants, Centaurs and Nightmares, Sprites, and more. This region is dangerous and largely unexplored.
CLIMATE: The Carskaties are noticeably warmer than the other areas of this region.
POLITICS: The various races in the Carsketies are at an almost constant war with each other and are thus too busy to make political connections with other races.
TRADE: This area is too unpredictable to make any statement about trade other than that it has its risks.
